NEWS– Health Minister and Lira City Woman MP, Jane Ruth Aceng has officially expressed interest in representing the NRM in the race for Parliamentary Speakership to replace the late Jacob Oulanyah.
Aceng’s assistant picked the nomination forms from the NRM Secretariat.
She joins eight others seeking for the same position under the ruling party NRM.
Other candidates seeking NRM flag for this seat include Anita Among, Jackson Kafuzi Karugaba, Sarah Opendi Jackson Atima, Felix Okot Ogong, Theodore Ssekikuubo, Jacob Oboth Oboth and Kintu Alex Brandon
Speaking to the press after tendering in his application, Jackson Kafuuzi who represents Kyaaka South Constituency affirmed that his candidature anchored on uniting the August House.
“I believe that I have learnt each and every thing from him. It is those very things that I intend to do. Oulanyah united us all, I would like to add that we heal the wounds that we have as Members of Parliament. The differences, simmering tensions should be set aside and most importantly, the integrity of parliament should come back. I was in parliament from 2016 and saw how well Mama Rebecca Kadaga presided over Parliament. I have learnt a thing or two from her and have also learnt a thing or two from our late brother Jacob Oulanyah. I would like to put all those together and add my own brain. I believe I can do better,” he stated.
“As a nation we mourn the passing of one of our greatest leaders. One of the most inspirational Members of Parliament and Speaker of Parliament. One of the best lawyers that some of us looked up to as we were growing up. We became his friends, he nurtured us, Oulanyah was there for us and now he’s gone. The law sometimes appears unfair so much that we are required to replace him before we pay our last respects to him. But that is the law,” he added.
In the event that he is given a go ahead to contest on the NRM ticket, Kafuuzi vowed to relinquish his current position of Deputy Attorney General.
