BUSHENYI– Buhweju district Football Club are the champions of the first ever Greater Ankole Football Tournament.
Buhweju District crashed Bushenyi district FC with 2 goals to 1 in finals played on Sunday 21st August 2022 at Bushenyi district main stadium in Bushenyi town.
Bushenyi district fc had earlier exited the supporters by scoring in early minutes of the first half but were surprised by Buhweju boys who looked different and changed the game in the second half scoring 2 goals to take the game.
Bushenyi district FC had ousted Sheema district to reach finals on away goals rule while Buhweju district FC Crashed Ibanda district FC by 5-0 in total both home and away to book the final spot.
Meanwhile, Sheema FC humered Ibanda district FC by 4-1 to finish the tournament in the 3rd position.
Ankole region consists of Bushenyi, Mitooma, Sheema, Buhweju, Rubirizi, Ntungamo, Isingiro, Mbarara, Mbarara City, Rwampara, Kiruhura and Kazo districts.
In other games, Greater Mbarara political leaders team drew 1-1 with Greater Bushenyi political leaders team.
Football lovers who were full at the pitch to the maximum were impressed by Buhweju leaders including Hon Francis Mwijukye and Chairman Deo who showed support to their team from the start up to the climax.
However, none of the Bushenyi serving Members of Parliament showed up at the pitch which left sports lovers with alot of questions about the love for sport by Bushenyi leaders.
Sources intimated to us that it’s the first time in history for Bushenyi playground to register a maximum full number of fans forcing others to even watch from outside the pitch, nearby hilly areas and shops while others stood outside on top of their vehicles.
