KITGUM- The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Tuesday this week extended his heartfelt sympathies to the people of Kitgum district in Acholi Sub region who have been suffering due to cattle rustling in the region and neighboring regions.

Gen Muhoozi extended his sympathy while addressing a rally in Kitgum district regarding issues of security challenges that had surfaced in the area.

Upon his arrival, Gen Muhoozi was informed about the security challenges in the area, including cattle rustling by the Karamojong and elephant invasions which have occasionally destroyed crops and caused fatalities to residents in the area.

Gen Muhoozi assured hundreds that the UPDF had been taking necessary measures to deal with the Karamojong warriors and weaken them.

Gen Muhoozi also assured residents that he is going to deploy commandos whom he termed as very tough soldiers assuring residents of good results after the deployment.

Additionally, Gen Muhoozi vowed to deploy another battalion (800 soldiers) in the affected areas to ensure proper security of people and their property and fight the vice.

Gen Muhoozi added “commandoes will be deployed to the area to enhance the security situation, and air force capabilities would be redeployed to deal with the rustlers. 

Tackling the issue of elephant invasions, Gen Muhoozi asserted that government had plans for Kidepo National Park to be fenced, but locals were advised to engage in beekeeping as a means of deterring elephants.

Brig Joseph Balikuddembe, the 3rd Division UPDF Commander in Karamoja subregion presented the numerous achievements of the operation, including the recovery of guns, prosecution of warriors, and the return of cows to their rightful owners.
