NEWS- Top Leaders in the MK Movement have started pre-event preparations for the Katuna border reopening Thanksgiving slated for April this year, in Kabale District.
The MK Movement is a National Forum that brings together all groups of volunteers involved in popularizing the First son and Presidential Adviser on Special operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba who is also rumored to be nursing ambitions of contesting as Uganda’s President in the near future.
Recently, the General announced his plan to Visit Kigezi and officiate at the event prepared to celebrate the re-opening of the Uganda-Rwanda border at Katuna, by the Kigali Government for close to three years.
Kainerugaba’s announcement on twitter, followed a series of requests by his supporters in Kigezi to be the Chief Guest at the function that has been postponed several times due to adjustments in his program schedules.
However, in one of his recent tweets, Gen. Kainerugaba announced that President Yoweri Museveni and his Rwandan Counterpart Paul Kagame had given blessings to the Katuna Border reopening party, adding that the theme of the celebration would be “Rukundo Egumeho,” a Rukiga phrase translated as, “ Keep the Love”.
MK Movement’s Commissioner of External Affairs Micheal Katungi revealed that the party, preceded by a thanksgiving ceremony, would be held on any day between 20th to 25th April 2022.
While Adressing the Press at White Horse Inn Kabale, the Nakawa Deputy Resident City Commissioner – DRCC Sheikh Kasim Kamugisha also the Kabale Municipality NRM flag bearer said that Katuna border re-opening was “great news” to the people of Kigezi, and it was fair enough to invite Gen. Kainerugaba as the Chief Guest at the celebration.
“After the closure of the Katuna border, businesses collapsed and everything went south. We are grateful to God that after a long period of suffering, He answered our prayers through Gen. Muhoozi who convinced President Kagame to re-open the border,” Kassim said.
Sheikh Kassim is best known as the leading promoter of the Gen. Muhoozi Brand in Kabale District, especially through Press conferences and radio talk shows. He welcomed the MK Movement leaders visiting Kigezi.

The MK Movement Vice Chairperson in charge of Western Uganda, Balaam Barugahara said that the main purpose of their going to Kigezi was to call for a unified effort among MK Movement Teams therein as they prepare for the event, and to visit religious leaders who are the main hosts. He termed the program as “Team Build Up”.
“We are purely here for Team Build Up, because you are aware that our Movement is divided into several Groups with slightly different names, but one goal. We are also meeting Religious leaders who are the main hosts of the upcoming event,” Balaam said.

Meanwhile, Ambrose Kibuuka, from Rukungiri District who identified himself as the Chairperson Organizing Committee of the upcoming event explained that participation will be open to people from all walks of life regardless of their social-economic status, age, gender, religious or Political affiliation.

Other people who accompanied the group at the Press Conference in Kabale included the Kabale District NRM Secretary for Publicity Edison Turyahabwa alias Political, Coordinator of the Revolutionary Guards in Kigezi sub-region, Barnabas Tugumisirize among others.
