NEWS- Muhanga progressive Senior Secondary School in Rukiga district is tightening grip on uplifting science subjects in both O and A levels to be the leading hub in Kigezi sub region.

Tweyongyere Baker the school head teacher told this reporter that much effort is being put at Science subjects following the new National Science, technology and innovation policy.

Tweyongyere adds that students passing well in science disciplines gives them a chance to be admitted on Government sponsors at Universities.

Tweyongyere further said that in the recently released Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results, out of 22 students who sat at this school, majority passed well with Science combinations and qualified for Government sponsorship.

President of Uganda Gen. Yoweri K Museveni has severally warned public universities against wasting time and resources on what he called ‘meaningless courses’ but instead focus on science courses and research.

Last year, the government agreed to enhance salaries of science teachers to Ugx 4 Million and Doctors to Ugx 5 Million in order to encourage and promote the study of science and technology in the country.

Muhanga progressive Senior Secondary School is a private Church of Uganda founded and non-profit school under the Diocese of Kigezi which started in 2001 with O and A level.
