Amuria district council approves 29.7Bn budget

NEWS- Amuria District local government on Monday 30th May 2023 passed an impressive budget of  29,782,438,000 for the financial year of 2023-24.

The District speaker, Charles Otim who presided over the budget approval said that, Education took the lion’s share of 14Bn followed by Health with 7B and Administration department with 2.9Bn.

Others include, works 1.9Bn, production 1.2Bn, water 600M, Statutory 500M, Finance 400M, Natural resources 300M, CBS 300M, Planning 116M, Internal Audit 52.7M and Trade 42.7M. 

Internal Audit, Trade and local economic development took the least share of the budget.

According to the secretary Finance in Amuria District local government Hon. Kokas Erusu, the budget will be funded through central government transfers, Local revenue and donor funds among others.

“Our council was peaceful and objective in nature” Erusu added.

The LC5 for Amuria, Hon. Moses Emabu lc5 said, the budget will fix other gaps in the district like improving bad roads network, the staffing of midwives in health facilities across the District.

“Across the country, it’s only our district that has managed to pass the budget without contradiction from Hon councilors” Emabu noted.

He quoted some districts like Amolatar, Soroti, Kaberemaido and others to have passed budgets with some arguments that led to open fights among councilors.
