Happiness as Rukungiri district Athletes return with National medals

SPORT- Junior Athletes from Rukungiri district who participated in the National Kids athletics competitions in Luwero district have successfully returned back to the District.

The various competition categories that include; throws, Jumps and truck events, started on Tuesday 9th May 2023 last week at Kasana sports playground in Luwero district.

The Rukungiri district Kids athletes and their team Leader who is the inspector of schools in charge of sports Solomon Arineitwe, said that the main purpose of the Competitions was to ensure Talent development from the grassroots such that the children can use their inborn talents for their future livelihood.

Arinaitwe confirmed to this reporter that with 23 athletes they went with, they managed to get 3 medals 2 in 150m sprint, and 1 in long jump, hoping for a better in the next championship as all participants were provided with participating certificates as well as the district.

“We went with 23 Athletes, I am happy that we came back safely. Am very happy that we managed to get 3 medals and without doubt I strongly believe we will do better in the next championship” said Arineitwe.

Seeing off the Participant on Monday 15th May 2023 as the guest of honor, the Commissioner of Physical Education Rev. Canon Duncans Mugumya appreciated the good participation of Districts especially the record number of disabled Kids that participated.

Rev. Mugumya encouraged other Districts that were unable to Post Kids with Disabilities in the Competitions to ensure their involvement in the competitions next time.

“I personally want to appreciate those districts that managed to post Kids with Disabilities in these Competitions. It’s very good health to involve them in such activities so that they can discover their inborn talents and for those that never managed, please next time try and get us some” said Rev. Mugumya.

A Lucky selected team of Kids athletes will now represent Uganda at the Kids Athletics championship on an international level to be held in Rio de Janeiro Brazil late this year.
