Minister Jim Muhwezi’s mother-in-law dies

NEWS- The Minister of security who doubles as the Rujumbura county legislator Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu has lost his mother-in –law Canon Constance Kabonero.

The late Canon Constance Kabonero is also the mother of Tycoon Bob Kabonero, a businessman and an entrepreneur.

She passed away this morning (Tuesday May 30th 2023) at Victoria hospital in Kampala where she was admitted last week after battling with chest complications.

According to the family, there will be a church service on Thursday in Kampala and then the body will be driven to Ntungamo for burial on Saturday. 

Burial is expected to take place at their ancestral home in Karubuga village, Rubare Sub County in Ntungamo district.

The late canon Constance Kabonero was born in 1930 in a family with a strong Christian foundation; she went to Kitunga primary school in Ntungamo district in 1946 for her primary level and later to Bweranyangi Junior in Bushenyi district from 1950-52. 

She later enrolled at Mengo hospital where she studied and completed her nursing and midwifery course. 

After studies she worked as a midwife at Missionary founded maternity centers in Mukono, Masaka, Mengo, Kapeka and Bulemezi. 

Canon Constance Kabonero later got married to Dr. Kosia Kabonero who was a veterinary doctor working in the then Rujumbura (Rukungiri) who later passed away in 1995. 

In 1980, Canon Constance Kabonero was recognized as a lay canon in the diocese of West Ankole, the highest rank of a low person under the Anglican Church. 

She also built a church near her home as a symbol of her commitment to her faith and liver for church as a true Christian.

She produced three children: that is Canon Susan Muhwezi, wife to security Minister Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, Richard Kabonero, Uganda’s ambassador to Rwanda and Bob Kabonero.

She was a respectful, God fearing lady and church pillar of South Ankole diocese in Ntungamo district.
