NEWS- The State Minister for economic monitoring Ms Akello Beatrice Akori has unearthed discrepancies in the Kiyoora water project in Nyakyera Sub County and the delayed completion of Kihanga seed school in Rukoni East Sub County among the presidential pledges to improve service delivery in Ntungamo district.
Minister Akello said that a report from the office of the Auditor General citing irregularities in Ntungamo has caused her prompt visit to the district to inspect some of the projects and find out the truth.
The Minister found out that some of the projects were done well, others not done according to BOQs and others being ghost projects.
Ms Akello found out that the Ugx 100M that was allocated for Kiyoora water project in Nyakyera Sub County meant for public use to benefit individuals was at stand still without any work on ground.
She accused the district officials, mostly the Chief Administrative Officer, for failure to follow up on the allocated funds and being irresponsible in accomplishing their duties.
Minister, who was concerned about the irregularities, directed the Anti-Corruption Unit to do thorough investigations on the ghost water project in Nyakyera and delayed completion of Kihanga seed school in Rukoni East where over Ugx 700M was used and the contract erupted January 23rd 2023.
The site engineer Elli Bwoogi said the delayed completion of the work is due to lack of funds where a portion of budgeted money was sent back to the central government.
Other projects that were inspected included health centers, Parish Development model and Emyooga Saccos among others.
The Minister was accompanied by the Ntungamo district officials including district boss Samuel Mucunguzi, CAO Mathius Ndifuna, District Speaker Nicholas Twikirize among others.
