MITOOMA– A 55 year old man has committed suicide by hanging on an Avocado tree to attract local councils to his place in Mitooma district.

The deceased is Turyagyenda Mariyasari, a resident of Ndurumo cell, Ndurumo parish, Rwoburunga Sub – county in Mitooma district.

It’s reported that on Sunday 28th May 2023, one of the residents identified as Akanyijuka Promise saw the body of Turyagyenda hanging on an avocado tree in a banana plantation and she alerted other residents including the area village chairman Mupenda Jackson who later reported the matter to Kengyeya police post.

Residents who talked to this reporter said the deceased was a mental illness patient and that on 26th  May 2023, he told his wife in presence of their children that he wanted to do something strange that would attract the Local council leaders to his place.

This scared his wife who called his family friend only identified as Silver, the deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kazo who visited the deceased and tried to counsel him. His efforts yielded no fruit of success after Turyagenda, now the deceased, openly told him that he was going to hang himself.

The Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson SP Martial Tumusiime confirmed the incident stressing that the crime scene was visited by a team of detectives, documented by SOCO and postmortem conducted at the scene on PF48C by Dr Oloya of Mitooma Health Center IV.
