NEWS- The Police in Kassanda District have commenced investigations into mysterious circumstances under which one of their own officers allegedly shot himself dead.
According to the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson Ms Racheal Kawala, the incident took place at Makokoto Police Post when Police Constable, Alex Kitiyo attached to the Police Post took his own life today early this morning.
Kawala told journalists that PC Kitiyo woke up today morning and shot several bullets into the room of the In charge Police Post Inspector of police John Kakooza, then he later returned to his room and sat on his bed and shot himself dead.
Kawala said the Police Detectives immediately cordoned off the scene and declared it a crime scene and documented relevant statements to guide in the investigations.
Meanwhile at least two fishermen have drowned in the waters of the River Nile after the canoe they were sailing in capsized at Nidirindiri landing site, Palorinya sub-county in Obongi district.
Obongi Resident District Commissioner Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka has confirmed the incident and identified the victims as Amanga Majid, a resident of Aliba Sub-county and Yasin Mundasiri, who resides in Kochi Sub-county.
The two met their death while fishing during night hours and the bodies of the deceased have been recovered and handed over to relatives for burial.
Mpimbaza Hashaka who is the Chairman of the District Security Committee said that at least four people have so far perished in separate accidents in the River Nile within a space of five days.
The RDC cautioned fishermen and residents travelling on water to be extra cautious, use life jackets, and avoid using boats when it is raining or overloading them.
