SPORT- A selected team of 24 pupils from Primary schools in Rukiga district have joined the rest, for the 7th Edition of National Kids Athletics competitions under way in Luweero District.
The National Kids Athletics that will be held at Kasana sports stadium have started today 9th May 2023 where the Kids with disabilities on their bodies are doing their athletic games.
According to the acting Rukiga district Sports officer Twinomuhwezi Davis, the pupils will be engaging in both under 14 and 12 athletics’ games which include; throws, Jumps and truck events.
Twinomuhwezi further said that they received a round Ugx 12 million from the district as the education sector to enable them post their children in the ongoing Kids competitions.
“The education department was able to receive around Ugx 12 million to cater for our participants” said Twinomuhwezi Davis.
Leading a team accompanying the competing Pupils from Rukiga district, the District Secretary for Health, Education and sports Hon. Nkamushaba Jacqueline said that the district was able to also prepare their kids for the competitions.
Hon. Nkamushaba who doubles as the woman LC V councilor representing Muhanga town council said that having their young ones on a National level gives the district a highest degree of recognition.“It’s the highest degree of recognition having our children also competing on a national level and it’s from this that I want to appreciate the district for being able to prepare the kids” said Nkamushaba.
The Participants with two games teachers on board including Ayebare Brenda of Mparo Mixed primary School and Rweyamba Michael of Nyeikunama Primary School set off on Sunday last week and are expected to return back home by 16th May 2023.
By Monday 8th May 2023, over many districts including Rukiga district had presented participants with 57 districts having Kids with disabilities also to compete.
