Ministry Launches Regional ICT Innovation Hub at Kabale University

NEWS– The Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology, and National Guidance has launched a regional ICT Innovation Hub at Kabale University in Kabale District.

Silas Ngabirano, Assistant Commissioner at the Ministry, officiated the event on behalf of Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, who was unable to attend. Ngabirano, as the guest of honor, encouraged students to capitalize on the hub and utilize their innovation skills to embrace modern technology.

During the official launch, Ngabirano expressed his enthusiasm upon witnessing the potential innovations showcased by the students.

He highlighted one student’s development of a Light Control System and a Computer Eye Clicking System, emphasizing that such groundbreaking innovations position Kabale University as a leading institution in technological advancements nationwide.

In his address at the function, Honorable Adson Kakuru, Chairperson of the University Council, urged students to seize the opportunities presented by the hub and invest in their personal development. Kakuru reminded them that innovation is essential in today’s world, emphasizing that they should embrace it wholeheartedly.

He also called upon stakeholders to establish a productive social network to generate unsolicited proposals, which would aid in securing more projects for the growth and development of the University.

Prof. Joy Constance Kwesiga, the University Vice-Chancellor, expressed gratitude towards the Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology, and National Guidance, as well as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), for allocating funds to establish the innovation hub and incubation center at the University.

However, Assoc. Prof. Businge Phelix Mbabazi, the Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Library, and Information Science, highlighted some challenges faced by the hub.

He mentioned difficulties in terms of operational procedures, operation manuals, limited computers, and costs. Mbabazi appealed for additional equipment and resources to support the hub effectively.

In a separate request, Steven Ampeire Kasyaba, the Rubanda District LC5 Chairman, called for the expansion of the Faculty of Tourism and Forestry in Rubanda District.
