Kagando School of Nursing wins Rwenzori Inter-Health Institutions games

NEWS- Kagando School of Nursing and Midwifery emerged the overall winner of the Rwenzori Inter-health Institutions Games and Sports competitions that concluded yesterday at Nyakasanga stadium in Kasese town.

 Located in Kisinga Town Council, Bukonzo County East in Kasese district, Kagando School of Nursing and Midwifery is one of the sections run by Kagando Rural Development Center which is a ministry arm of the Anglican Church of Uganda in South Rwenzori Diocese.

The annual tournament which started on August 30, 2023, attracted a total of eight (8) Health institutions that train Nurses, Midwives, Clinical Officers, Laboratory technicians and their Assistants, Pharmacists and Radiographers among others.

 And the schools included; Bwera School of Health Sciences, Kagando School of Nursing and Midwifery, Kagando School of Medical Laboratory, Rwenzori School of Nursing and Midwifery. 

Others were; Virika School of Nursing and Midwifery, Fort portal College of Health Sciences, Chemiquip school and Fort portal International Nursing and School all from Fort portal Tourism City. 

According to the General Secretary for Rwenzori Inter-health Institutions Games and Sports, Ronald Kiiza, the tournament involves a number of sports activities including Football, Netball, Volleyball, Handball and all athletics events. All games are done by both girls and boys. 

Mr. Kiiza says that after totalling all points from all the games, Kagando School of Nursing and Midwifery got the highest points and it was subsequently announced the winner of the Rwenzori Inter-health Institutions Games and Sports competitions followed by Fort portal College while Fort portal International Nursing and School came in the third position. 

Virika School of Nursing and Midwifery came in the 4th position, Rwenzori School of Nursing and Midwifery in the 5th position and Bwera School of Health Sciences in the 6th position.

And Kagando School of Medical Laboratory came in the 7th position and Chemiquip School came in the last position.

Earlier, Kagando School of Nursing and Midwifery had won the Football for boys’ competition after beating Rwenzori School of Nursing and Midwifery 1-0 and in football for girls again Kagando School of Nursing beat Rwenzori School of Nursing in penalty kicks while Bwera School of Health Sciences won the Netball by girls’ competitions after beating Kagando School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Fort portal College won the Handball competitions for boys while Kagando School of Nursing won handball for girls. Again Fort portal College won volleyball for boys while for girls was won by Virika School of Nursing as well as winning all competitions of mind games including crafts, chess and omweso.

While speaking to our Reporter today, Mr. Kiiza said that the best three institutions have qualified National games and sports slated for September 10th – 16th this year at Kabale School of Nursing and Midwifery in Kabale district before the best institutions qualify for East African games and sports expected to take place next year in Nairobi, Kenya.
