NEWS- Local leaders in Busiriba Sub County in Kamwenge District have issued a stern warning to the public regarding the misuse of long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets during the first day of their distribution exercise.

The warning comes in response to reports of some individuals using bed nets for rearing chickens in various areas within the district.

Kamwenge District Health Officer, Dr. Mucunguzi William, recently confirmed that the district had received over 214,000 treated mosquito nets from the health ministry as part of efforts to combat the spread of malaria.

Dr. Mucunguzi highlighted that malaria has been the leading cause of death for the past two financial years, with 17 cases reported in 2022/23 and 28 deaths in 2021/22.
