NTUNGAMO– Two Ntungamo District councilors have on Monday died in a road accident in a fatal accident along Mbarara – Kabale highway, 4km from Ntungamo town.


Niwagaba Pius Tusimire, the Local Council V councilor for Nyarutuuntu sub county independent NRM leaning and member of finance committee together with Kutamba Monic Rutabingwa, lady councilor for LCV for Ngoma sub county and secretary for works died at around 4pm when a Toyota wish registration number UBH 873G they were travelling in rammed into a box body motorvehicle registration number UBD 660V belonging to Nile Agro industries which was coming from Rubaare side.

According to eye witnesses, Niwagaba who was driving the Toyota wish was speeding during rain and upon seeing the box body coming hastily, he made an abrupt braking forcing the vehicle into the middle of the road.

It is from this point that it lost control and swerved into the lane of an oncoming truck, killing both councilors on spot.

The team from Uganda police Ntungamo rushed to the scene and took the bodies to Itojo Hospital mortuary for Post mortem examination.

The Ntungamo District chairman Samuel Mucunguzi Rwakigoba noted that they are traumatized and shocked because the two comrades were transparent and served their people diligently since 18th May 2021.

The aspiring Ntungamo District woman MP Turyabitunga Sylvia Ekyefaamu who is also a radio Presenter at Radio Ankole noted that  it is shocking to see such comrades die at the time when they needed them most to advise the young politicians.

Naboth Mpiriirwe, the councilor representing Ntungamo sub county noted that it is double tragedy in the district council to lose the two councilors at ago saying that were vital in the discussions.

The District speaker Twikiriize Nicholas Mugyenyi said that there will be special council meeting on Wednesday to pay tribute to both fallen councilors.

The Education and health committee chairman who is also councilor for Ruhaama Sub County Ahabwe Bernard Mupenda noted that it was shocking learning of such heartbreaking news.

By press time, the Police were still compiling the report.
